A brave resident of our township noticed a white pick-up truck parked behind a house on Lukens Rd. today. He pulled into the driveway and blocked the truck. A mother-daughter team had broken into the house and stolen pills, money and jewelry. The resident phoned a friend and asked him to bring a gun. The FCSD was called, too. The two women from Georgesville were arrested by the FCSD Deputies and are now behind bars. Inasmuch as they were caught in the act, they probably will be tried and convicted of burglary.

The following e-mail is from a Pleasant Township resident. This shows the value of a security system and big dogs!

Lou Luther
Pleasant Township Neighborhood Watch

Hi Lou,
Just wanted to let you know my house was broken into yesterday. They pryed the service door open going into my garage which is located in the rear of the house, not visible from the road. The alarm went off when they entered the kitchen from the garage. Between the alarm and the dogs they closed the door and left. Nothing was taken. My alarm went off at 2:30 p.m. The door they pryed open, was very secure. My son put it in using the extra heavy steel plates longer screws, extra screws, heavy duty deadbolt. I have a feeling by the way my dog was acting, the person got dog bit. I hope so anyway!

The following news is from a member of the PTNW:

The Thorton Gas Station on Norton Road was robbed at gunpoint this week. The Columbus Police followed tracts in the snow which led them to an apartment building close by. They surrounded the building and found the robber.
What is sad, is it weights on the heart of a good person out there working who has a gun pointed at them.

I forgot to mention that the 3 teen-agers who attempted to break into 2 homes on Oakhurst Drive this morning were armed with machetes. If you know any local teen-agers who own machetes, please reply to this e-mail and I will forward the info to the FCSD.

Three white teen-agers wearing shorts attempted to break into two homes in the cul-de-sac at the end of Oakhurst Drive early this morning. One home with security cameras caught them on video. One boy (or girl) had long hair. One boy was wearing an oversized black jacket. Another was wearing a white hoodie. Fortunately, both homes have security alarms.

March 10, 2013

We just learned that a deck, garage structure and a sink with faucet and drain were cut and removed from a property at 3300+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. early in February.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 10, 2013

Two of the 5 burglaries committed in Pleasant Township and a FE of an unoccupied building during February have been previously reported to you by us.

We also had burglaries at:

  • 6900+ Harrisburg Pike (FE, $100 worth of cigarettes, front & side windows broken,)
  • 6100+ London-Groveport Rd. (no FE, 9mm pistol, 30/30 rifle,) and
  • 9300+ Alkire Rd. (FE, gold retirement watch, 2 jewelry boxes with misc. jewelry.)

The 3 thefts/robberies were at:

  • 3300+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd.
Intersection of Rt. 665 & Graessle Rds. (cell phone taken,)
  • 6700+ Harrisburg Pike (10 vehicle batteries and cables,) and
  • 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (OSU/Michigan birdhouse & rabbit statue.)

March 3, 2013

On separate days in January, thefts or burglaries were reported by 3 different victims at the same address, 7600+ Opossum Run Rd. Apparently, all of the following items were stolen during this one burglary: (5 firearms, book of old pennies, laptop computer, cell phone, microphone, M audio keyboard, interface tazcam, Dell tower computer w/15" monitor, guitar w/amplifier, and X-Box.)

Other burglaries were reported at:

  • 3200+ Georgesville-Wrightsville Rd. (no FE, muzzle loader from unsecured garage;) and
  • 3200+ Pebble Beach Rd. W. (FE by kicking in rear door; misc jewelry and change.)

"Thefts" were reported at:

  • 4200+ London-Groveport Rd. (dispute over dumping trash and payment for dumping trash;) and
  • 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (victim lost money to some type of Internet scam.)

Thefts are usually from yards, vehicles or outbuildings.
We attended the Neighborhood Block Watch meeting in Georgesville on January 30. The meeting conducted by two officers from the FCSD Community Relations Unit, was very well attended. Two of the Pleasant Township Trustees, Dale Worthington and Ed Sheets, were in the audience. The need for this meeting was deteremined by the daylight FE burglary of the home of a mother who provides day care for young children in her home. She and the children had left the residence for just a short time when the burglary occurred in December, 2012.

March 2, 2013

We have learned that the man who broke in the back door at 3200+ Pebble Beach Rd. on January 14, is now in jail. He was caught in the act of burglarizing another home. He is now in jail. We have also learned that the "change" he stole on 1/14, amounted to $2500 that the victims had been saving for a trip.

A neighbor had described the burglarer's vehicle parked in the victims' driveway to them. They recognized it as belonging to the girlfriend of a former employee and reported that to the FCSD.

February 24, 2013

Pleasant Township residents:

About 6 A.M this morning, 3 burglars entered a house in the cul-de-sac at the end of Oakhurst Dr. by forcing open a sliding glass door. They stole a computer, laptop, Wii game, 8 bottles of wine, 4 wine glasses, 3 binoculars, cutting knives, purse and wallet containing a credit card, debit card and $100 in cash. They also were in the vehicles in the garage and in the small greenhouse. The owners and their 2 small dogs were not awakened by the burglars.
The 3 burglars then attempted a burglary at another house in the cul-de-sac on Oakhurst Dr. by cutting the screen on the back door. When they touched the glass, the security alarm sounded and scared them off.
These burglars had parked on Wahl Ct.
If you can afford a security system, please purchase one.

Pleasant Township Residents:

We have learned that the burglarers had cut the telephone wires at the second house they attempted to burglarize on Oakhurst Dr, between 5 and 6 A.M. this morning. The security system alarm went off and scared them away. Fortunately, the deputy sheriffs were able to obtain fingerprints off the window they had attempted to enter. Hopefully, a match can be found within a reasonable length of time. We hope that these prints will be processed quickly because the attempted burglary occurred with the occupants in the home. Usually, routine fingerprint processing by the Ohio BCI takes 6 months.

February 13, 2013

A burglary was also reported in January at 5000+ Grove City Rd. just west of Holt Rd. (FE, 2 metal barn doors and chop saw.)

Pleasant Township residents:

Fortunately, two FCSD Deputies were able to appear at the Pleasant Township Trustees meeting on 2/12/13, to report on the criminal offenses in our township from January 1, thru February 10. Almost all of the January offenses had been previously reported to you by us. One additional burglary was reported on January 30, at 6100+ O'Possum Run Rd. as a no force entry with misc. jewelry stolen.

Early in February, a FE burglary was committed on Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (5air-nail guns, air compressor and gas-powered saw.) A burglary was committed on Zuber Rd. using no force (32" flat-screen TV, digital camera and pistol.)
With the increase in burglaries in our township, we recommend the purchase of inexpensive and easily-used door security steel bars at Lowes or another facility. We use them on our doors when we are not at home. Most importantly, keep windows covered and expensive items out of sight.

Unfortunately, during the current holiday season when the roads were mostly clear of snow, 4 burglaries were committed in our township on the following rural roads :

  • on 12/21: 6600+ Johnson Rd. and 7500+ Young Rd. and
  • on 12/26: 6700+ Harrisburg and 8300+ Alkire Rd.

Three homes have been burglarized on Alkire Rd. in the last 10 days. One home was in Prairie Township. The other two were at 8700+ and 9100+ Alkire Rd. Entry was gained by breaking a window and kicking in a door. $8000 in jewelry was taken at 8700+ and an unknown amount of jewelry was taken at 9100+ Alkire Rd. Other valuables,e.g. guns & AV equipment, were not stolen. These crimes are committed during the day when residents are at work or school. A light brown or tan car was seen in the driveway at 9100+ Alkire Rd. by a passer-by. The thieves were not deterred by a burglar alarm or a large dog, so one resident is installing security cameras now.
If your home is on a sparsely populated rural road, security cameras and burglar alarms are strongly encouraged.

December 6, 2012

Pleasant Township Residents:

Fortunately, as in October we had just one burglary reported in our township for November. We also had 2 B&Es and 4 thefts.
The burglary was a forced entry through the front door at 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (64" TV.)

The B&Es were at:

  • 6900+ Harrisburg Pike gas station (FE, $600 & 1000 packs of cigarettes,) and
  • 6700+ Harrisburg-London Rd. (FE, door & lock damaged, 18" chainsaw, impact tools & dual AM/FM receiver and CD player.)

The 4 thefts were at:

  • Hickory Hills GC, 3300+ Georgesville-Wrightsville Rd. (irrigation equipment,)
  • 7000+ Norwood Dr. in Darbydale (2 dual paint guns with hoses,)
  • 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. ($650 cash, various purchases,) and
  • 6100+ London-Groveport Lot (no FE, refrigerator & stove.)

A resident at 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. reported that an unauthorized withdrawal had been made from his bank account.

We are fortunate to have several FCSD deputies assigned to our township and Jackson Township which comprise District 30. Hopefully, we will not lose any of them to Franklin and Prairie Townships which have seen an increase in DUIs recently. Most of you probably know that Prairie Township (just north of us) has the second highest crime rate in Franklin County (excluding the city of Columbus.) Hamilton TWP. has the highest crime rate.

November 8, 2012

Fortunately, just one burglary and 3 thefts were reported in Pleasant Township during October. Therefore, we deeply appreciate the continued patrolling of our roads and streets by FCSD Deputies.

The criminal offenses are as follows:

Burglary at

  • 5600+ Norton Rd. (FE, 3 persons assaulted resident and took unknown items.)

Thefts at:

  • 1000+ Maple St. in Harrisburg ( No FE, cracked, small block Chevy engine being used as flower pot base taken from back yard;)
  • Georgesville -Wrightsville & Seaman Rds. (Kawasaki Motorcycle;) and
  • 6600+ Harrisburg Pike ( no FE, 10' metal & wood trailer taken from property)

An Oakhurst resident reported his dog stolen, but it had run away and was recovered. A Georgesville resident reported that a known person had made unauthorized charges to his credit card. As previously reported, a Pleasant Township resident reported being a victim of Identity Theft.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 29, 2012

Pleasant Township residents:
At the October 23 Pleasant Township Trustees' meeting, a deputy sheriff reported that a Pleasant Township resident had recently been a victim of identity theft. On October 28, Dedra Cordle, a reporter for the Columbus Messenger wrote an article in the SW edition of the Columbus Messenger giving recommendations from the Federal Trade Commission on how to protect yourself from also being an ID theft victim. The FTC recommends monitoring credit accounts, bank statements and credit reports on a regular basis. We also recommend that you monitor your credit card accounts and bank accounts online every day or so, if possible.

Dedra Cordle also reported that the U.S. Department of Justice recommends keeping the word "SCAM" in mind because each letter stands for a way to safeguard personal information:

  • "S" reminds you to be stingy about giving out personal information;
  • "C" means you should check financial information looking for items that should not be there;
  • "A" says to ask periodically for a copy of credit reports; and
  • "M" means maintain careful records of banking and financial accounts.

October 13, 2012

On October 4, we did not yet have a complete report of the criminal offenses committed during September in our township. We had another burglary and another theft at the end of the month. The burglary was at:

  • 5500+ Harrisburg Pike ( FE by removing air conditioner from wall and climbing thru the opening; I-Pod, costume jewelry & rare coins.)

The theft was at:

  • 2400 Norton Rd. (FE by breaking vehicle window; bag of pens, make-up, meds, work ID, & keys.)

At a theft previously reported at 1000+ School St. in Harrisburg, (no FE, electrical wiring & fluorescent tube lighting.)
So the total burglaries were 5, and the total thefts were 12 for September. A total of 11 guns were stolen in Pleasant Township last month. The criminals may have seen the guns thru uncovered windows or overheard someone talking about their gun collections.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 4, 2012

September 7, 2012

After a record-setting number of burglaries being reported in July, no burglaries, just one B&E and two thefts were reported in August in Pleasant Township. For this, we have the FCSD personnel and the Hilliard Police to thank for arresting and/or preparing charges against suspected burglaries.
The B&E was at 4800+ Opossum Rd. (FE, misc. tools, 5 gallon can of gasoline and grow lights.) The two thefts were reported at:

  • 7100+ Harrisburg Pike (black 18 ft. trailer) and
  • 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd.

Two residents of Pleasant Township were victims of the misuse of their credit cards.
Also, two Oakhurst Drive residents reported that criminal mischief occurred on their properties on August 2, and August 24. Apparently some young people have been outside late at night getting into mischief while their parents are asleep.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 15, 2012

On Wednesday, August 8, the theft of a riding lawnmower was reported at 6400+ Oakhurst Drive. While the residents were in Grove City, somebody used a little key to start a riding lawnmower parked on the property and drove it toward the road. Something must have scared the thief, because the owners found it there when they returned home.
Obviously, it is too easy for a lawnmower parked outside to be stolen with another similar key. So if you must leave your lawnmower outside, use a chain and lock to secure it to something on your property. This would, at least, make it more difficult for someone to steal it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 2, 2012

Pleasant Township residents:

During July, in our township, just 2 burglaries were committed and an adult was arrested at the scene of the burglary at 4900+ Norton Rd.; so nothing was taken. The other burglary was at 3400+ Big Run Rd. where a 12 gauge shotgun and a 20 gauge double-barrel shotgun were stolen.

Six thefts were reported in July, but 4 of these cases are closed now. The thefts were at:

  • 8000+ Railroad St. in Georgesville (3 pieces scrap metal,)
  • 7100+ Kropp Rd.
  • 7000+ Biggert Rd. (horse saddle, leather reins & horse brush, case closed,)
  • 3600+ Thornhill Rd. (bank account info, case closed,)
  • 3300+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (case closed,) and
  • 4700+ Zuber Rd. (generator, wheelbarrow, small air compressor, case closed.)

We are thankful to the FCSD personnel assigned to our Township for their efforts in closing these criminal offenses cases!
Jackson Township residents will have the opportunity to attend a crime watch meeting conducted by the FCSD Community Relations Division on Monday, August 6, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Jackson Township Bldg. at 3756 Hoover Rd. If you have relatives or friends in Jackson TWP who are concerned about crime there, please let them know about this meeting.

Earlier this month the two young men who burglarized an Oakhurst home on White Sulphur Ct. in June were arrested by Hilliard Police. Fortunately, they were apprehended while burglarizing a house with stolen property in their possession. They are awaiting trial. They were identified by the Oakhurst victims, who had hired them to spread mulch in their yard.
To date we have had just one burglary committed in our township this month. A FCSD Deputy has reported to us that they are in the process of charging several other burglary suspects in our township.

On Tuesday, July 10, at the PT Trustees meeting, a FCSD Deputy reported that a burglary occurred at 7600+ Old Harrisburg Rd. on June 27. No forced entry occurred when a 12 guage shotgun, 38 caliber pistol, a muzzle loader, $1500 cash and a jewelry were stolen.
The Deputy and I discussed a suspiciously acting solicitor that was observed by several Oakhurst residents on Monday, July 9. The thin, young Black man (6' tall, small mustache) had been dropped off (and picked up) in the neighborhood supposedly to sell meat from a small Pride Meat Company. He had no credentials except a small printed brochure. Deputy Brown said the residents were correct in reporting the solicitor to the FCSD at 525-3333. Although a deputy cannot always respond immediately, one deputy did respond to the call that afternoon.

Pleasant Township residents:

At the June 26 meeting of the Pleasant Township Trustees, a FCSD Corporal described two suspects wanted by the FCSD in connection with several burglaries in our township:
A white male, in his twenties, with large holes in his ears for big loop earrings, and a white female, 5' 5" tall, weighing 110 lbs, driving a 2006 gray Ford Crown Victoria with no license plate on the damaged front end and decal shadows on the vehicle. The vehicle has been seen backed into the driveways of homes that have been burglarized. If you see this vehicle and couple acting suspiciously, immediately phone the FCSD radio room at 525-3333.
Almost all of the 11 burglaries reported in PT in June have been committed on weekday afternoons while residents are at work or on an errand.
Another suspicious vehicle that has been reported by neighbors of burglary victims is a very old gray van with two young white men in it.

Two more burglaries were reported this week at:

  • 7000+ Kropp Rd. on 6/21 and

We now have a total of 11 burglaries in our township this month. The www.pleasanttownship.com web site offers tips to avoid being burglarized. Two more burglaries have been reported in our township at:

  • 5100+ Lukens Rd. on 6/19; and
  • 7600+ O'Possum Rd. on 6/14.

We now have a total of 9 burglaries reported this month in Pleasant Township.
When conversing with your neighbors or loved ones, especially those who live on rural roads, please let them know about our current outbreak of burglaries here and the fact that they gain entry by breaking-in a door or simply walking through open garage doors. Also, windows should be covered by blinds or curtains so burglars cannot see your valuables inside your house. The burglars usually knock on a door to see if anyone is home. If nobody answers the door, they break-into the house.

June 19, 2012

The following information is in answer to our request for a description of the vehicle used in the June 14 burglaries. If you see this vehicle and couple, please contact the FCSD Radio Room at 525-3333.

Lou and Jack Luther

The vehicle is a red GMC, like a Blazer. During the burglary where the owner was out mowing, the lady in the car was letting her accomplice know where the mower was so that he could get out with the t.v. without being seen.
In the other burglary just south of PVMS, they broke through the back door to enter when the couple was both at work.
The vehicle description comes from a man who was in the bathroom when his home was broken into. He saw the man and the car when he came out of the bathroom.

The following information is from a Township resident. Apparently, the victim of one of the 6/14 burglaries had left his garage door open while mowing in back of his home. It is wise to not leave garage doors open even while working outside on your property, especially in a rural area.
Hopefully, we can obtain a description of the burglars' automobile soon.

Lou,
A friend told me that the burglars are entering through open garages. In one instance the person was out back mowing. He had left the garage up and they were in and out with a flat screen in a matter of a few minutes. Supposedly there are 2 people, a man and a woman. The woman remains in the car.

Earlier this month, the vacant house at 6466 Oakhurst was rented to a man, Michael Lanham, who was released from prison last summer after serving time for a rape and an attempted rape several years ago. He drives a gray pick-up truck. The following notification from the FCSD has details about his appearance. If you cannot open the notice, he is 33 years old, Caucasian with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5'9" and weighs 180 lbs. He has numerous tattoos on his body.
Some of you may realize that for many years we have had another registered sex offender living on Norton Rd. in Oakhurst who is a child sex predator. To our knowledge he has not approached any children in Oakhurst.
We do not expect a problem with Michael Lanham, but you have the right to know that he lives in your neighborhood now.

An adult male was arrested for the armed burglary at 6200+ Graessley Rd. No forced entry into 5200+ Thornhill CT. occurred when a burglar stole a 54" flatscreen TV, DVD player, Nintendo Wii Game, 2 computers, 2 computer tablets, jewelry, 10 Longaberger baskets, 25 figurines, underwater camera and paper shredder.
No force was used to steal a torch set & tanks, circular saw, a reciprocating saw, misc. tools and an air-cutting drill from an unlocked outbuilding at 6400+ Biggert Rd. A B&E was also reported at 7200+ Alkire Rd.
A 1500cc minibike was stolen from an unlocked shed at 6400+ Biggert Rd. Another theft occurred at 5600+ Biggert Rd. In Timberlake, a resident reported the unauthorized use of a credit card.
Although fewer burglaries were reported in February than in January, residents must lock their doors, cover and lock windows, turn lights on inside and outside their homes when it is unoccupied even for a few hours. If a radio is turned on (while the residents are not at home), this could discourage amateur burglars because they would assume somebody is inside the house.

Pleasant Township Residents,

Unfortunately, burglaries have increased in January in our township partly because cold, wet weather prevents neighbors from noticing stangers in the vicinity. Three homes were entered without force, which means doors or windows were left unlocked.

The 5 burglaries were reported at:

  • 3200+ Holt Rd. (FE thru rear door, misc jewelry & 2 TVs stolen;)
  • 5500+ Lambert Rd. (X-Box gaming system;)
  • 4800+ London-Groveport Rd. (X-box, Wii gaming systems, Apple laptop computer;)
  • 8000 Alkire Rd. (X-Box & 8 games:) and
  • 3300+ Norton Rd. (FE thru front door, 2 flat screen TVs stolen.)

  • 5100+ Lambert Rd. (trailer stolen from yard;)
  • 7100+ Kropp Rd. (VCRs, DVDs, computer monitors, 2 outdoor chairs, iron bathtub, aluminum extension ladder;) and
  • 1100+ Columbus St. ( 3 catalytic converters from vehicles in automobile lot.)

Please be aware of any strangers acting suspiciously in your vicinity. If deemed necessary, make a dated note of a description of the person(s), the vehicle and the suspicious activity. If necessary, phone the FCSD Radio Room at 525-3333 to report a burglary or theft in progress.

January 6, 2012

During December one burglary, one B&E of an unoccupied structure and 8 thefts were reported in Pleasant Township. The totals for 2011 are 21 burglaries, 17 B&E and 86 thefts occurred.
In 2009, we had 53 burglaries, in 2010, we had 28 burglaries. This is encouraging news. However, we had more thefts in 2011 than in 2009 (71) or 2010 (59.) Most thefts occur not from forced entry, but because someone has forgotten to lock their vehicle or garage doors. Most criminal offenses have occurred on rural roads rather than in neighborhoods.
The one burglary this month was reported at 6400+ Biggert Rd. Entry was gained by FE through a rear door. A Nintendo, Wii game, MB & HW cars and WWII items were stolen.
The one B&E was reported at 7100+ Kropp Rd. Forced entry into a shed. Lawnmower, hoes, shovels and rakes were stolen.

No forced entry was reported in six thefts at:

  • 6700+ Lewis St. (purse & credit card in vehicle);
  • 7700+ Alkire Rd. (power washer from garage);
  • 6700+ Harrisburg-London Rd. ( credit card from vehicle);
  • 3300+ Harrisburg- Georgesville Rd. ( Dell laptop computer, misc. jewelry stolen);
  • 6300+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (diesel engine from garage); and
  • 1000+ Columbus St. (I-phone from residence.)

Forced entry was used at 6700+ Harrisburg-London Rd.( GPS, misc. CDs, cigarette lighter converter) and
a salvage yard at 5800+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (30 auto batteries, 25 radiators, one tire grinder and one catalytic converter.)
Encourage all family members, neighbors and friends to verify that their vehicle and garage doors are locked when they are not in use.

December 5, 2011

Pleasant Township Neighborhood Watch members,

During November we had two burglaries, one breaking & entering of an unoccupied structure and two thefts reported in Pleasant Township according to the FCSD Detective Bureau report we receive each month. To date this year, we have had a total of 21 burglaries, 16 B&E, and 80 thefts. Although we have had a few more thefts this year than in 2009 or 2010, we have had fewer burglaries than the the 53 in 2009 or the 28 in 2010. The reduction in burglaries has been accomplished by the increase in patrolling of our neighborhoods and rural roads by the FCSD deputies and to an increase in public awareness of the need to take crime-preventive measures to decrease the liklihood of burglaries during the current economic recession.
The burglaries occurred at 6800+ Denton Road (FE) and at 8700+ Alkire Road. An attempted burglary occurred at 6600+ Gay Road, but was stopped when a brave 80 year-old lady confronted the young white man in her home. He and an accomplice had broken a front window to gain entry. The accomplice had walked out the front door. Their gray sedan was parked down the road from the house. Nothing was stolen.
The B&E and theft occurred at 5200+ Denton Road. Other thefts were at 7000+ London-Groveport Road (cell phone on playground) and at 7100+ Kropp Road (car battery charger and extension cord stolen from back porch.)
As reported in the Columbus Dispatch, the Franklin County Commissioners (O'Grady and Brown) are forcing the FCSD to make major cuts in their 2012 budget. Hopefully, this can be accomplished without reducing the patrolling of our rural roads and neighborhoods in Pleasant Township. Public safety is an important role of government!

On Gay Road near Harrisburg, someone knocked on the door and before the eldery lady could get to it, he left. She saw the back of him going down her sidewalk and his grey sedan was parked in her driveway. She went back into her room. A few minutes later, she heard a noise and when she walked into her kitchen there was a man standing in her hallway! Can you imagine how she felt??? She is 80 and lives alone. He had driven his car up the road and walked back to her house. He busted the window in the front of the house and let himself in. I imagine he didn't think she was home. She keeps the door to that room closed but he opened it and walked into her hallway. When she saw him she said, "What are you doing in my house?!!" He looked up at her astonished and turned around and jumped out the same window. Broad daylight into the front window! She said he was young (20's) a nice looking white man. The deputy sheriff called the detective and since no one was hurt and there was nothing stolen, they are not going to investigate it further.

A house in the area of 5000 numbers of  LONDON GROVEPORT RD ORIENT was broken into. The young wife was just across the road for lunch with her two boys and then ran into Grove City to pick something up. When she got back her back door was open and her house was trashed. They used a crow bar to get in. The sheriff was called. They took a brand new apple computer, a TV, and had tried to take the TV from the upstairs room but dropped it so they left it there broken. Her doors were locked, but that didn't seem to deter the criminals.

The following note is from a member of our Pleasant Township Neighborhood watch. It illustrates the need for all of us to discuss with our children what they should do in the event of an attempted burglary, that is: dial 911 or 525-3333 immediately. The action of these college-age children after the fact is excellent.

Hi Lou,
We returned from vacation last evening. While we were gone, there was an attempted break-in at our home. Our daughter was in the house. When she heard someone on the back deck trying to open the door, she left through the front door. (She heard them saying, "It's locked." We CANNOT figure why she did NOT call the sheriff's office or 911 as it was happening. She called a friend who lives in the trailer park down the road and he came down. (I still can't believe that he didn't call the sheriff's dept.)
Our son came home from Cincinnati and checked out the house and wired a bunch of cameras throughout. He's majoring in criminology and he didn't report this either. Anyway I thought that I'd let you know. It sounds like some of the things that you have described in your emails.

BTW - it happened around 8:30 p.m.
Another recent incident in our neighborhood has apparently prompted a neighbor to keep his garage door closed during the day. Men in a beat-up red truck nosed around his open garage and yard and then rang his doorbell. When the resident answered the door, they asked if he wanted to sell an item by his garage door. An eyewitness reported this incident to us.

SEPTEMBER 6, 2011

During August, just one burglary, one B & E, and 9 thefts were reported in Pleasant Township. At 5600+ Joy Rd. in Harrisburg, thieves entered an unlocked door and stole numerous wrenches and a tool box. At 7900+ Alkire Road, thieves entered an unocupied building through an unlocked door and stole an air compressor.
Most thefts are made without forced entry into a vehicle or yard: 4500+ London-Groveport Road (scrap metal); 7800+ Alkire Road (air compressor); 4400+ Zuber Road (prescription meds); 5900+ Harrisburg Road; 4400+ Zuber Road; and 6100 London-Groveport Road. Three other thefts were by deception or are closed cases. Numerous tools were taken by forced entry into a van at 6700 Lewis Drive near Norton Road.
We still have 3 deputies frequently patrolling Pleasant Township and hope we do not lose one due to any budget cuts made by Franklin County Commissioners as a result of cuts in funds distributed by the State of Ohio.

A second vehicle's windows were shattered by vandals at about 2:30 A.M. Sunday morning in the 6200+ block of Oakhurst Drive.  Therefore, these were random acts of violence targeting vans parked at the end of driveways.
Television news reported this evening that even residents of Upper Arlington south of Lane Avenue have been victims of random thefts of opportunity, e.g. thefts from unlocked vehicles with valuable objects in plain view.

AUGUST 28, 2011

Very early Sunday morning (8/28) two windows on a van parked at the end of a driveway at 6200+ Oakhurst Drive were smashed out. Nothing was stolen. The victim speculates that the crime may have been committed by a vandal who had broken a garage window (or friend of his) at the residence in 2010. The victim had pursued the vandal and obtained a description for the FCSD. No other vehicles in Oakhurst Knolls were vandalized on 8/28. It is wise to park vehicles close to your house and have outdoor lighting on them to deter criminals.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2011

For the month of July, 2 burglaries, 2 B & E, and 6 thefts were reported in Pleasant Township. An adult was arrested for a burglary at 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. on 7/21. Security cameras captured a picture of one of the burglars at 6000+ Lambert Rd. on 7/23. A suspect in this case is awaiting trial for a burglary he was indicted for in Columbus.
Thieves forced entry into a garage at 3800+ Neff Rd. on 7/10 and stole a power washer, metric tool set, hedger, welder, weed eater and generator. An unoccupied building was broken into on 7/11, at 7000+ Norwood Rd. in Darbyville.
Thefts occurred at 5200+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (garage door opener taken); 1000+ High St. in Georgesville (flat-bed trailer taken); 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. (2 bicycles taken); 6800+ Denton Road; 4900+ and 5200+ Big Run South Road. As usual these thefts were committed by amateur criminals just driving and walking up to vehicles or buildings and simply opening unlocked doors while residents are sleeping or not at home. Almost all of these thefts are preventable if we residents use outdoor lights, locks, security systems and, if necessary, security cameras.
If you live on a farm, do not trust strangers who pull into your driveway and ask stupid questions, e.g., "Is your truck for sale?" when no For Sale sign is visible. Three white men, aged mid 20s, driving an old white Blazer asked such a dumb question of a resident when she asked why they were in her driveway in July. Fortunately, they left when she said "no."

Local woman forgets to lock her automobile doors & is robbed... read on...
I live on Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. I always lock my car doors.
Well last night I was carrying in groceries and didn't do it.
This morning around 6:45 I heard my garage door go up. And I looked out my bedroom window and saw a guy close my car door and jump into an older grandpa looking maroon car and drive off with my garage door opener.
I was so shocked! He was a white male is all that I can tell you.
I have powered off my electricity to my door and put rods thru the

In June, burglars were able to enter a home in Pleasant Township through an unlocked rear window and at another property through a garage with an unlocked overhead door.  So, for your own protection, lock all windows and garage doors before leaving your property unattended day or night.
For the month, we had one burglary, one attempted burglary, two Breaking & Entering of unoccupied structures, and 11 thefts.  The burglary of a Laptop, prescription drugs & a MP3 Player w/dock was made thru an unlocked rear window at 5900+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. The attempted burglary at 6400+ Lambert Road was made by prying on rear sliding glass doors. Security cameras captured pictures of a white male suspect. A neighbor's front door window was also broken. The unlocked garage door was lifted up at 5300+ Grove City Rd. and a power washer, air compressor, chain saw, trash can, & gas can w/fuel were stolen. Another unoccupied structure at 5600+ Harrisburg-Georgesville Rd. was broken into.
Thefts of or from vehicles were at 6900+ Harrisburg Pike (catalytic converter); 4700+ Zuber Rd. (vehicle); 7200+ Kropp Rd. (tools); 7300+ Rouff Rd. ($50 bill, $20 in coins); 4400+ Rensch Rd. We continue to be blessed by vigilant neighbors and the patrolling of Deputy Sheriffs in our township. As many of you now know, our long-serving Franklin County Sheriff Jim Karnes, who lives in Pleasant Township, has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We join his family and employees in wanting him to be successful in his battle with this disease.

At the Pleasant Township Trustees meeting on April 12, a FCSD deputy asked that citizens be on the lookout for these known burglars: a couple in a very rusty old white or silver bullet-shaped Datsun, Saturn or Chrysler "K" car. The hub caps are missing on the drivers side of the car. The man is about 6' tall, weighs about 170 lbs., age 35- 50, has short brown hair, broken and yellow teeth and looks unkempt. The woman is 5' 4" tall, weighs about 120 lbs., mid-twenties, and has long dark blonde hair. They have knocked on numerous back doors and asked illogical questions when a resident answers the door. If nobody answers the door, they have broken into homes and stolen property, most recently on April 2.
If you observe this auto and couple, please phone the FCSD at 525-3333 and report the rusty old white car's license #, if you can, the couples's activities and the location and direction they are headed.

At the March 8, 2011 meeting of the Pleasant TWP. trustees, a FCSD deputy reported that two men were caught recently in the act of stealing copper piping in a vacant house in the vicinity of Seaman and Harrisburg-Wrightsville Roads in southern Pleasant Township.
Just one burglary and three thefts were reported within Pleasant Township in February.  A burglar forced entry through the front door at 3500+ Norton Rd. and took misc. jewelry.
A 16" canoe was stolen at 8500+ Opossum Rd. A mailbox and the mail were stolen at 4800+ Norton Rd. The door lock was damaged on a vehicle at 2700+ Old Kropp Rd. and a Garmin GPS Unit was stolen.
Fraud was reported in incidents at 5300+ Timberlake and  5500+ Gay Rd.
The copper pipes burglary on Oakhurst Rd. was actually reported on January 29.
Please continue to be vigilant when the weather improves later in March.

An owner of a vacant home on Oakhurst Drive has had all of the copper piping stolen from the house sometime this month. A deputy had noticed an open door on the house one February morning while patrolling, but erroneously assumed that one of the owners had parked their car in the garage while checking on the house.
So if you notice an open door or window in a vacant house in your neighborhood, please call the owner or the FCSD radio room at 525-3333.
Also remember that an unlit or vacant house with a "For Sale" sign in the front yard is a temptation to potential thieves.

At 11:25 a.m. at 8700+ Alkire Road, a man with a gray car knocked on the front door. Despite a barking dog at the window, nobody answered the door. So he went to the back of the house and busted in a basement window. He left the property because the security sytem alarm was activated. If the owner of the house had not had the security system, the man would have definitely entered the house and taken whatever he wanted. Because this house had been burglarized a few years ago,  the owner had made the wise investment in the security system.

Fortunately, crime is still low in our township. Just one burglary, two breaking & entering crimes and 4 thefts were committed.  The burglary of ten guns, a flat-screen TV, gold bracelets, etc. was by forced entry into 7900+ Harrisburg-London Road. Copper pipes and wiring were taken from the B & E into two vacant homes at 3000+ Kropp Road and 8100+ London-Groveport Road.  Thefts occurred at 3200+ Tam O'Shanter Place (cell-phones in UPS package on front porch in Oakhurst), 6200+ Harrisburg-London Road (suspect known by resident), 8610 Opossum Run, and 5570+ Gay Road. Items stolen included money, a gift card, snowblower, a purse and false teeth.
Again, do not leave valuable items in plain sight in motor vehicles to tempt potential thieves.
